"Vous êtes des assassins! Oui, des assassins!" ('You are murderers! Yes, murderers!). The famous words spat at Tour de France officials by the French rider, Octave Lapize, as he crested the Col d’Aubisque during Stage 10 of the 1910 edition of the Tour de France.
It was the first year the Pyrenees were included in the race and Stage 10 was particularly brutal, with the riders having to negotiate five major cols in the 326km parcours from Luchon to Bayonne, including the Tourmalet and Peyresourde. Lapize went on to win the stage, eventually triumphing in Paris ten days later.
